Surrender to the wild, ancient allure of Tsavo West, the land of lions and lava, at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
Tsavo is a vast national park located in southeastern Kenya, divided into two sections: Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Combined, the park covers an area of approximately 22,000 square kilometers, making it one of the largest national parks in Africa. Tsavo is known for its vast wilderness, diverse wildlife, and dramatic landscapes.
Tsavo East is characterized by flat savannah grasslands, while Tsavo West is more rugged and mountainous, with steep cliffs, volcanic hills, and dense forests. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including the “Big Five” (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, and buffalo), as well as other animals such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hyenas, and hippos.
One of the most unique features of Tsavo is its red-colored elephants, which are believed to have been stained by the area’s reddish soil. The park is also home to the longest lava flow in the world, the Yatta Plateau, which stretches over 290 kilometers.
In addition to its wildlife and landscapes, Tsavo is also rich in history and culture. The park has a number of archaeological sites, including the ancient city of Gedi, which dates back to the 12th century. Visitors can also learn about the local culture and traditions of the Maasai and Kamba communities who live in and around the park.
Tsavo offers a range of activities for visitors, including game drives, guided walks, and hiking. The park is also a popular destination for birdwatching, with over 500 species of birds recorded in the area. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of camping and lodging options within the park, ranging from basic campsites to luxury lodges.
Overall, Tsavo is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kenya. Its vast wilderness, diverse wildlife, and unique landscapes offer a once-in-a-lifetime safari experience, while its rich history and culture provide a deeper understanding of Kenya’s past and present.
